COMMUNITY SLAB
YEAR: 2026
LOCATION: Riga, Latvia
PROGRAM: Mixed use
SIZE: 16000 m2
STATUS: Development proposal
The project rethinks the conventional residential block as a compact modular urban framework that combines infrastructural efficiency with spatial richness. A single linear slab accommodates 102 apartments within a highly rational structural system organized around only two vertical cores and minimized circulation areas. The efficiency gained through this compact organization is reinvested into generous terraces, double-height interiors, duplex and triplex apartments, and diverse shared outdoor spaces.
A combinatorial modular system generates a wide range of apartment typologies while maintaining the efficiency and precision of timber modular construction. Deep loggias and integrated vegetation create a layered relationship between interior and exterior spaces, softening the scale of the building and enhancing environmental comfort and community life.
By minimizing non-productive area and maximizing spatial quality, the project creates generous living conditions within an efficient and low-emission housing system.

Instead of fragmenting the development into multiple buildings, a single linear slab accommodates 102 apartments

A flexible modular framework enables 67 unique apartment identities

Active ground floor support public life, while planted terraces extend residential spaces above.
