Layers of Identity

YEAR: 2025

LOCATION: Latvia

PROGRAM: Private house

SIZE: 80 m2

STATUS: In progress

The project investigates how a compact and minimalistic house can be multiplied within a shared plot while maintaining a strong sense of individuality. The design is rooted in the cube as the most efficient spatial form, offering rationality and structural simplicity. Rather than repeating a fixed prototype, the cube is carefully adapted to its specific context, responding to orientation, surroundings, and spatial relationships between neighboring houses.

Individual character is achieved through subtle yet deliberate variations in floor plans and facade compositions. These adaptations allow each dwelling to develop its own identity while remaining part of a coherent architectural system. The result is a balanced ensemble in which repetition and diversity coexist, creating a harmonious built environment.

Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is used as the primary structural and interior material. Its application supports an environmentally conscious approach while also shaping the architectural expression of the houses. The exposed timber surfaces contribute to a warm interior atmosphere, reinforcing the connection between structure, materiality, and living space. Together, efficiency, adaptability, and sustainability form the core principles of the project.
