Living with Context

YEAR: 2025

LOCATION: Riga, Latvia

PROGRAM: Housing

SIZE: 6800 m2

STATUS: Competition

The core of the architectural concept lies in an inclusive response to diverse urban contexts. Facades facing the streets are designed to be more enclosed, responding to traffic intensity and the character of the surrounding cityscape, while the courtyard facade is conceived as more open, emphasizing privacy and a strong relationship with the landscaped inner courtyard.

Particular emphasis is placed on the building’s corner, where extensive glazing establishes an urban landmark and a clear visual point of orientation. The internal layout is designed for maximum efficiency, with a centrally positioned stair core that minimizes shared circulation areas and increases the proportion of usable residential space.

The apartments are carefully organized and offer a diverse range of sizes and typologies, including compact single-level units as well as spacious duplex apartments on the upper floors. This diversity provides a rich spatial experience and a high level of living comfort. A commercial unit is located at the building’s corner, ensuring optimal visibility and direct access from the street.

Each apartment is provided with high-quality private outdoor space in the form of balconies or terraces, spatially articulated to ensure privacy. The functional principles shaping the outdoor space is derived from the urban context, aiming to achieve an optimal quality of the living environment.
